Active Sustainable Energy Systems

Active Sustainable Energy Systems evolved from start-up business Active Air Conditioning Ltd, which was founded in 1999 by Ian Nicol (Managing Director) and Chess Group plc. Chess provided business angel support for an equity share in the company, which provided energy efficient air conditioning solutions in the north of Scotland.

Active developed the service portfolio to include ventilation systems and a business services maintenance division and expanded this offering across the whole of Scotland. Today the company has 62 employees and an annual turnover of over £6m.

Active has embraced the renewable energy market having added solar and wind technology expertise to its service portfolio. Active now provides a range of environmentally friendly, sustainable energy systems as well a versatile range of design, installation and maintenance packages.
